After a pretty sleepless night (checking the clock every 1/2 hour), I got up at 6:30 and headed over to Management Centre Innsbruck. It turned out to be a pretty easygoing day. My class is small (11 students), we're running a simulation (read, "game"), and the students are delightful. Claudia Haidacher is the program manager and she is wonderful. We ran from 9:00 - 5:00, then I headed back to our apartment in a thunderstorm. Judy spent the day wandering the city and doing some gift shopping. When the weather had mostly calmed down, we went to what had been one of our favorite restaurants 5 years ago, the Tyroler. It's pretty authentic Tyrolean cuisine, and they don't kowtow to you with English menus or (in our case, at least) English-speaking wait staff -at least, not that will admit it.
It was awesome.
I wish I had written down the name of what we ordered, but it's pretty much this. You know chicken Cordon Bleu? OK, get rid of the chicken and replace it with mountains of pork. Stuff it with Speck (in this case, smoked pig that is pretty close to prosciutto) and melted bleu cheese, Then add gobs of spaetzel. And do it all for $15. We got fed around 6:30 and I literally hadn't eaten in 12 hours, and I couldn't finish it. And now, a couple of hours later, just thinking about it gives me heart palpitations, and I'm pretty sure it's raising my cholesterol count as well. But so good! These people obviously get a lot more exercise than me,
We are back in our room now. It's about 8:30, and I'm hoping to unwind and get some sleep tonight!
